Dr. Junying Zhang graduated from Tsinghua University with a Ph.D. degree and joined Beihang University in 2002, and became a full professor in 2009. She conducted research as an academic visitor in the University of Oxford in 2015. Her research interests focus on first-principle calculations and structure-properties relationship of materials for clean energy conversion and storage.Dr. Junying Zhang has co-authored more than 200 peer-reviewed journal publications with more than8,800citationsandh-index of 52accordingto Google Scholar, and won the second prize of the Natural Science Award from the Ministry of Education of China. More than 10 invention patents have been authorized, and two patents have been transferred.Dr. Zhanghas been awarded the honours of Outstanding Graduate of Tsinghua University and Teaching Excellence Award of Graduate Course of Beihang University.She has been selected into programs of Beijing Nova,New Century Excellent Talents in University, and Blue-sky Scholar of Beihang University. She has presided over ten projects including the National Natural Science Foundation of China,theNationalHighTechnologyResearchandDevelopmentProgramofChina,and Fok Yingdong Education Fund.Dr. Zhang works in the editor board of three academic journals and the academic committee of three societies.

Philip W. T. Pong received a B.Eng. from the University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 2002 with 1st class honours. Then he obtained a PhD in engineering at the University of Cambridge in 2005. He was a postdoctoral researcher at the Magnetic Materials Group at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for three years. Currently he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).His research interest focuses on the fault detection, predictive maintenance, and anomaly detection of power grid. He is the Founding Director of the Green Technology Research and Training Laboratory, leading the research and education activities of offshore wind energy at NJIT. Philip Pong is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (FIET), a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (FInstP), a Fellow of the Energy Institute (FEI), a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (FIMMM), a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (FHKIE), a Fellow of the NANOSMAT Society (FNS), a chartered physicist (CPhys), a chartered engineer (CEng), a chartered energy engineer, a registered professional engineer (R.P.E. in Electrical, Electronics, Energy), and a Senior Member of IEEE (SMIEEE). He serves on the editorial boards for several IEEE and SCI journals.

Professor Raman Singh’s primary research interests are in the relationship of Nano-/microstructure and Environment-assisted degradation and fracture of metallic and composite materials, and Nanotechnology for Advanced Mitigation of such Degradations. He has also worked extensively on use of advanced materials (e.g., graphene) for corrosion mitigation, stress corrosion cracking, and corrosion and corrosion-mitigation of magnesium alloys (including for the use of magnesium alloys for aerospace, defence and bioimplant applications). Prof Singh is a senior professor at Monash University, Australia. He is a Guest Professor at ETH Zurich, Switzerland (2020, 2023, 2024), US Naval Research Lab, Indian Institute of Science, and University of Connecticut. He worked as a scientist at Indian Atomic Energy and as a post-doc fellow at University of New South Wales, Australia.Prof Singh’s professional distinctions and recognitions include: Guest Professor of ETH Zurich, Editor of a book on Cracking of Welds (CRC Press), Lead Editor of a book on Non-destructive Evaluation of Corrosion (Wiley), Editor-in-Chief of an Elsevier and two MDPI journals, leader/chairperson of a few international conferences and numerous plenary/keynote lectures at international conferences, over 265 peer-reviewed international journal publications and 15 book chapter, and several competitive research grants (that includes 4 Discovery, 7 Linkage and one ITRH grants of Australian Research Council). Prof Singh has supervised 52 PhD students. His vibrant research group at Monash University comprises of PhD students from different disciplines (Mechanical, Chemical, Materials and Mining Engineering, and Science) as well as from different cultural backgrounds (Australian, Middle-eastern, Chinese, Malaysian, Indian, African, North American and Israeli).

Professor Jimmy Yu, Head of United College, will step down from the top job on 1 August 2022 after a decade of service. From the 334 Scheme first launched in 2012 to the coronavirus pandemic, Professor Yu’s term of office is never short of challenges. Nonetheless, in the face of difficulties, he remains radiant, friendly, and cheerful in front of students, always keeping optimism and positive spirits in the air. When asked to describe college students and staff, Professor Yu mentioned that the college is a “nurturing ground for successful people”. “Why? Because it’s the truth,” said the scholar, who showed us a photo of him and Sir Charles Kao after attending the college graduation ceremony in 2010—the year following Kao’s receipt of the Nobel Prize in Physics. Professor Yu remarked that the prominent achiever’s presence brought the college glory. Heavyweight characters aside, the retiring head is equally impressed by college students. Citing the 2016 Rhodes Scholarship recipient Serena Dai, he recalled the student expressing her worries about academic results at the Inauguration Ceremony. Upon hearing Serena out, Professor Yu encouraged her to set more ambitious goals and to “dream big, think far”. Eventually, the student stood out amongst elites across other universities and colleges in her final year and earned the acclaimed Rhode Scholarship, which granted her the opportunity to pursue doctoral studies at Oxford University in the United Kingdom a year after graduation.

Hanshen Li received his B.S.E. degree in Electric Power Engineering and Automation from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), Shanghai, China, in 2016, and the M.E. degree in Information, Production and Systems Engineering from Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan in 2017, and M.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from SJTU in 2019, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering in North China Electric Power University (NCEPU), Beijing, China in 2023. Prof. Li has been a researcher at China Electric Power Planning and Engineering Institute (EPPEI) since 2023. His research interests include planning and operation of active distribution networks, where Li has published 50+papers with over 200 total citations. He has been an editorial board of Journal of Energy Science and Technology since 2023, and also member of IEEE, IEEJ, CSEE and CES.

Haigang Wang is a principal research scientist in the Institute of Engineering Thermodynamics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, where he also received his PhD in the same field. He was working with the University of Manchester as research associate during 2005 and 2010. Haigang Wang’s research interests include flow dynamics simulation and measurement of multi-phase flows, mathematical modeling and process control for fluidized bed drying, process tomography and 3D image reconstruction,monitoring and control for granulation, drying and coating processes in the pharmaceutical industry. Dr. Wang has participated in several key projects as PI funding byEPSRC, TSB in UK and NSFC projects in China related with energy and pharmaceutical industry. He has been shortlisted as a finalist for the IET Innovation awards (highly commended for the IET Innovation Awards for Measurement in Action for 2009). He has published more than 200 scientist papers including the best paper award in international process tomography conference in 2008 in Poland and one international patent which has been demonstrated in GEA-Aeromatic in Switzerland and UK, AstraZeneca in Sweden and DuPont in USA. He has given several keynote lectures in international conference including 2014 IEEE Imaging System and Technology Conference in Greece, 2015 Asian Particle Technology Conference in South Korea, 2018 World Congress on Particle Technology Congress in USA and 2019 International Fluidization XVI conference in China. Kristina Lygnerud is Professor in Energy Sciences at Lund University in Sweden. She received her PhD degree from Gothenburg University in the topic of industrial and financial economics and obtained a scholarship to perform part of the studies at the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley, USA. Kristina is also working as Senior Energy Advisor at the Swedish Environment Research Institute, IVL. The field of research is business model innovation and Kristina has worked extensively with the heating and cooling sector in Europe. She has been on the board as both vice chair and chair of the European Industry Association’s (Euroheat and Power) research board (DHC+) in 2018-2023. Waste heat is an important resource that is not yet exploited to any large extent. Fossil fuels are being phased out and alternatives to combustion are needed making waste heat increasingly relevant. Industrial waste heat is a well-known asset, less known is waste heat from urban processes like transport, sewage-water, and IT (datacenters) and the fact that it is abundant and could meet 10% of the European building demand for heating and cooling. Masafumi Yamaguchi has received his Ph.D. degree from Hokkaido Univeristy, Japan (1978). He is now Professor Emeritus and Invited Research Fellow at the Toyota Technological Institute, Japan, Visiting Professor, Chiba Institute of Technology, Chairman of the PV R&D Review Committee under the NEDO, former Project Leader of the PV R&D Project under the NEDO, former Research Supervisor of the Creative Clean Energy Generation using Solar Energy under the JST. He has contributed to science and technology for blue light emitting diodes, semiconductor materials and physics, and high-efficiency solar cells and modules. He has discovered superior radiation-resistance of InP-realated materials and solar cells. His group has proposed and developed some key technologies for high-efficiency multi-junction solar cells. Most recently, his group has developied new world record efficiency (33.7%) InGaP/GaAs/Si 3-junction tandem solar cell module. He has received numerous awards such as the Becquerel Prize from the Eurpean Commission in 2004, the William Cherry Award from the IEEE in 2008, the PVSEC Award in 2011, the WCPEC Award in 2014 for his outstanding contribution to the development of science and technology of photovoltaic solar energy, and to the International collaboration and cooperation.

Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Aslina Baharum (Dr. Ask) holds the esteemed position of Associate Professor at the School of Engineering and Technology within Sunway University. Previously, she has served as a Senior Lecture at the Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences in Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), andas a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Computing and Informatics in Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), where she led the User Experience (UX) research group. Completing her academic journey, she also brings valuable industry experience sasa former IT Officer at the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM). She had experienced more than 20 years in the IT field. She earned her PhD in Visual Informatics from UKM, a Master Science degree in IT from UiTM, and Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in E-Commerce from UMS. Dr. Ask is an active member of the Young Scientists Network - Academy of Science Malaysia, a Senior Member IEEE, and a certified Professional Technologist recognized by MBOT. She has further contributed to the field by serving as an auditor for MBOT/MQA.

Minghua received his B.Eng. and M.S. degrees from the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University. He received his Ph.D.degree from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at University of California Berkeley. He is now a Professor at School of Data Science, City University of Hong Kong. Minghua received the Eli Jury award from UC Berkeley in 2007 (presented to a graduate student or recent alumnus for outstanding achievement in the area of Systems, Communications, Control, or Signal Processing) and The Chinese University of Hong Kong Young Researcher Award in 2013. He also received several best paper awards, including IEEE ICME Best Paper Award in 2009, IEEE Transactions on Multimedia Prize Paper Award in 2009, ACM Multimedia Best Paper Award in 2012, IEEE INFOCOM Best Poster Award in 2021, and ACM e-Energy Best Paper Award in 2023. He serves as Associate Editor of IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking in 2014 - 2018. He is currently a Senior Editor for IEEE Systems Journal (2021- present), an Area Editor of ACM SIGEnergy Energy Informatics Review (2021 - present), and an Award Chair and Executive Committee member of ACM SIGEnergy (2018- present). Minghua’s recent research interests include online optimization and algorithms, machine learning in power system operation, intelligent transportation systems, distributed optimization, delay-constrained network coding, and capitalizing the benefit of data-driven prediction in algorithm/system design. He is an ACM Distinguished Scientist and an IEEE Fellow.

Lingai LUO is Research Director of French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). She was Direction member ofLTeN and the director of LOCIE, both Laboratories of CNRS. She was the cofounder and coordinator of Sino-French Collaboratory for Environmental and Process Engineering and the director of its successor Sino-French Laboratory for Sustainable Energy of French CNRS and Chinese Academy of Sciences.She is mainly engaged in the intensification of heat and mass transfer and the efficiency optimization in different energy components, systems and processes. She has developed an original strategy on the optimization of energy systems by a multi-scale approach associated with an innovative method of optimized management of fluid distribution. Shi is the author of 2 books and over 130 journal articles. She is serving as subject editor of Energy Journal, and associate editor of three others Journals.

Prof. Pendse, Professor Emeritus of Chemical Engineering and Director Emeritus of FBRI has led research in the conversion of woody biomass to bioproducts including fuels, chemicals and advanced materials since 2006. Dr. Pendse led the establishment of a new Technology Research Center (TRC) for floor-scale processing of biomass at a 40,000 sq. ft. high-bay facility. TRC operates the Biomass to Bioproducts Pilot Plant (B2P2) and the BioCrude Oil Pilot Plant (BioCOPP), for its “Wood to Jet Fuel” program. As an internationally recognized leader in forest bioproducts, Pendse was named the University of Maine’s 2021 Distinguished Maine Professor (DMP).

Hyun Soo Kim completed his doctorate in materials science with the theoretical and practical combination of electrochemistry at the Tohoku University in 1997. After his practical study of electrochemical performance in a supercritical water environmental in TRINI, Japan a post doctorate, he joined the Battery Research Group at Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute in 2000, where he has studied on the new materials for advanced lithium-ion battery. He has served his vice-presidency of Korean Electrochemical Society since 2012.

Bárbara is an Associate Professor and communication coordinator of the Sustainable Campus Project at the School of Agricultural Engineering, UNICAMP. Her research focuses on precision and digital technologies for agroindustry, with specialization in automation and control of agroindustry processes. With a MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cuba and MSc and PhD degrees from UNICAMP, she has extensive experience in nationally and internationally funded projects. Bárbara also leads partnership and agreement initiatives with universities across Europe, Central and South America, and the United States.

Dr. Cho is a professor of Architecture and serves as the Associate Dean of Research, Doctoral Programs, and Global Engagement in the College of Design at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA. Dr. Cho’s expertise lies in energy modeling and performance simulation for sustainable building design and development. He teaches courses in Energy Modeling & Simulation, Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy, and Building Energy Optimization. His research and work experience encompasses energy savings calculation, high-performance building design, energy-efficient systems design, renewable energy systems integration, and Performance Measurement and Verification (M&V). Dr. Cho’s research is interdisciplinary and involves architectural, environmental, and engineering subjects to design and develop a sustainable built environment. He extensively employs energy modeling and simulation technologies, notably the advanced program EnergyPlus developed by the US DOE. These technologies help predict potential energy benefits from the early design phases through the life of a building, facilitating optimal design/development decisions in terms of energy efficiency while maintaining occupant comfort conditions. Dr. Cho also utilizes Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Deep Learning (DL) technologies to develop algorithms for optimal controls of HVAC and energy systems.

Masoud Taghavi is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at Chung-Ang University (CAU) in Seoul, South Korea, PhD in Mechanical Engineering- Energy Conversion, and head of mechanical engineering department, at faculty of Noshahr, Technical and Vocational University (TVU), Iran. His research interests are mechanical engineering, energy engineering, hydrogen liquefaction, production, and storage, fuel cell, sustainable energies and green systems, solar energy and photovoltaic panels (PV), renewable energies and HVAC new technologies fields, low energy building, and CO2 capture. For more than 10 years, Masoud has worked as an HVAC engineer in buildings, a researcher, and a teacher for various universities in Iran. Masoud was introduced as the "Top Researcher" and "Top Lecturer" in the faculty of Noshahr, Technical and Vocational University (TVU), Iran, respectively in 2020, and 2021, 2022

Abdulrahman AlKassem received the Bachelor degree in electrical engineering from Umm Al-Qura University, Saudi Arabia, the Master degree in electrical engineering and the Ph.D. in systems engineering from Concordia University, Canada, in 2008, 2012 and 2018, respectively. He is working currently as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and an associate professor in the Electrical Engineering Department, Islamic University of Madinah. His responsibilities include the improvement of academic, administrative, quality, community service, and strategic planning domains. He also developed several teaching courses including renewable energy systems in undergraduate and post graduate levels. His research interests are in the areas of renewable energy strategic planning, multi criteria decision-making, energy efficiency, and sustainable development. He has authored and co-authored many research articles and conferences in renewable energy sources planning, techno-economic analysis, and optimization. He was granted research funds for several projects and is currently serving as Principal Investigator on a funded project from Ministry of Education in Saudi Arabia and Co-Principal investigator on a second project funded by the Deanship of Research at the Islamic University of Madinah. He is a consultant, a Certified Energy Manager (CEM), and trainer in energy efficiency by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) and the Saudi Energy Efficiency Centre (SEEC). He is a registered Professional Engineer at the Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) and a member at the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE).

Dr. Saifullah Khalid is an experienced specialist in optimization algorithms, aircraft systems, active power filters, and innovation. He holds the post of Senior Manager at CCS Airport, Lucknow, India, and Leads the Team of R&D members at CCS Airport, Lucknow, under the Civil Aviation Research Organization, India. He is also Visiting Researcher at the School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (5th in the world- QS Subject Ranking 2021), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Dr. Khalid's background is in the invention of novel optimization algorithms. He has invented four novel optimization algorithms Adaptive Lizard Foraging Algorithm (AALF), Adaptive Spider Net search Algorithm (ASNS), Adaptive Mosquito Blood Search Algorithm (AMBS), and Adaptive blanket body cover search algorithm (ABBC). He knows Python, C++, and MATLAB/Simulink. He has received the Best Innovation Award and Outstanding Scientist Award at International Best Scientist Awards 2021, Best Researcher Award at the 11th International Scientist Awards on Engineering, Science, and Medicine, 2020, INDIA, Outstanding Scientist Award at International Best Scientist Awards, 2020, and best paper award in National Conference on Technological Revolution in Electrical Engineering 2014 (TREE-14), held at GBPEC, Pauri, UK, INDIA. He has been Keynote Speaker, Session Chair and delivered talks at various conferences in universities and colleges. In recent years, Dr. Khalid has extensively researched the role and impact of novel optimization algorithms in active power filters, aircraft systems, and air traffic surveillance systems. Dr. Khalid has completed a project, Generation of Electricity using Wind Energy Produced by Jet Blast of Airbus A320-200 and B737-800 for Only Departure Runways. Dr. Khalid is leading the project, Incorporating traffic resolution advisories made by Local ATCOs of the Station in the INDRA system under the civil aviation research organization, India. Besides, Dr. Khalid has extensive experience as a reviewer for academic journals, research agencies, government departments, and industrial bodies. Dr. Khalid has published around 100 research papers in various International Journals and Conferences, including IEEE, Elsevier, Springer, Taylor & Francis. He is the sole author of 41 publications ns. He has authored four books, edited two, and contributed six Chapters to edited books.

Hui-Ping Chuang was awarded a three-year scholarship provided by Japan Global Renaissance of Green Energy Revolution and completed her Ph.D degree at Nagaoka University of Technology,Japan in 2007. She was awarded the best poster in the International Symposium on GlobalRenaissance of Green Energy Revolution in 2006 and best poster in the 32th Wastewater Treatment Technology Conference in 2007. She did her post-doctoral research on the improvement of nitrogen-Removal processes at the Hiroshima University, Japan in 2008-2009, and developed a rapid molecular Detection platform at the National Cheng Kung University, in 2010-2012. She joined a research group focusing on developing a monitoring platform for toxin-producingcyanobacteria, chloroethene-degrading bacteria and nitrogen-removing microbes, making a regulation of drinking water in 2013-2014. In addition, she worked as a visiting academic in the South Australian Water Cooperation for clarifying microbial information in the anammox and granule sludge system for half year in 2014. Moreover, she got the academic and best paper awards in the fields of N2O oxidation and Chlorinated ethane degradation, and the study cooperated with SA Water corporation was acquired the research innovation award in South Australian. He received PhD from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (Korea). He was research fellow at the Academic Staff at the University of Minnesota and Principal Research Scientist, at the Korea Institute of Science Technology(1997-2003). He was an associate professor at department of advanced technology fusion of Konkuk University (2004-2008) and department of materials science and engineering of Yonsei University(2008-2012). He is a professor at the Environment and Energy Engineering of Gachon University. His current research interests are focused on (i) all solid Li based 2ndary battery materials and systems ; (ii) Nuclear materials such as cladding and MSR reactor. He matured experience in the thin film process and measurement, and synthesis of nano tailored ceramic-metal composite powder for electrode and solid electrolyte of Li battery. In particular, he has recently focused on new ATF cladding process based on room temperature swaging method.

Dr. Kang received PhD from Kyoto University of Japan in March 1998. After completing the National Research Foundation-supported Brain Pool postdoctoral fellowship program (1998), she served as a research professor at Sungkyunkwan University and Kyung Hee University (1999-2006). She is currently a professor in the Department of Chemistry at Yeungnam University. The research topics are closely linked to future social needs that related to green energy production and storage, photo/electrocatalysts, and carbon reduction and neutrality, using nano and porous materials. Her current interests include the development of new anode and cathode materials, which are key materials for secondary batteries. To date, Dr. Kang has published more than 400 peer-reviewed journal articles (over 11,000 citations, h-index 55, i10-index 270).

Alireza Ghasempour has been a faculty member in the Information and Communications Technology department at the University of Applied Science and Technology for more than 10 years. Dr. Ram Gupta is an Associate Vice President for Research and Support and a Professor of Chemistry at Pittsburg State University. Gupta has been recently named by Stanford University as being among the top 2% of research scientists worldwide. Before joining Pittsburg State University, he worked as an Assistant Research Professor at Missouri State University, Springfield, MO then as a Senior Research Scientist at North Carolina A&T State University, Greensboro, NC. Dr. Gupta’s research spans a range of subjects critical to current and future societal needs including: semiconducting materials & devices, biopolymers, flame-retardant polymers, green energy production & storage using nanostructured materials & conducting polymers, electrocatalysts, optoelectronics & photovoltaics devices, organic-inorganic heterojunctions for sensors, nanomagnetism, biocompatible nanofibers for tissue regeneration, scaffold & antibacterial applications, and bio-degradable metallic implants. Dr. Rajesh Karki is a full professor in the department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada. He is the director of the Reliability Research Lab in the Power System Research Group. He is a Fellow of Engineers Canada. He specializes in the area of power system reliability and resilience with about 30 year so experience in academic research and consulting work in reliability studies for Canadian and international electric power utilities. His research includes applications of renewable energy, energy storage, smart-grid initiatives and electricity market implications on the environmental compliance, efficiency, reliability and resiliency of power systems. He has published over 150 journal/conference papers, 5 books, 6 book chapters and prepared over 15 industry reports in this field. He has conducted reliability studies for the Saskatchewan Power Corporation, Manitoba Hydro, ATCO Electric, BC Hydro, Yukon Electric, NWT Power, Turks and Caicos Island, and Comision Nacional de Energia Chile. He has collaborated and signed MOU with Hydro Quebec, Korean Electric Power, Central Power Research Institute India, and research institutions in China, Norway and USA. He has developed software tools for reliability evaluation, and as served as a consultant for power system reliability software companies in Canada and USA.
